RE: In solidarity with your stand and concerns regarding a major leasing agreement of the Ulcinj beach property to UAE’s Eagle Hills
Honorable President Milatović, On behalf of the Pan-Albanian Federation of America VATRA, I humbly wish to express my heartfelt thanks and deep gratitude for your principled and courageous stand regarding the questionable lease agreement with UAE’s Eagle Hills of the Ulcinj beach, including the Grand Beach – the iconic seaside of the town and the country of Montenegro and one of the longest beaches of Europe. Your stand addresses with clarity the need for much transparency and justice to represent the citizens interests, respect the local laws and give due consideration to government institutions voicing the legitimate concerns of the community and the public opinion. In accordance with your constitutional and legal powers, we urge you to pursue this matter with the seriousness it deserves, in order to guarantee a fair review and open process that safeguard the national interest.
As publicly reported, the company “Eagle Hills Montenegro”, which has acquired the management lease of a significant part of the Grand Beach, is registered in Montenegro just last month and with a minimal capital that is suspicious on its face. It raises serious concerns regarding the company’s intentions, its real capacities and it reinforces the need for transparency into the process. An agreement such as this one directly impacts a strategically and economically important area of Ulcinj and the whole country of Montenegro. It urgently necessitates an open and inclusive assessment based on the will of the Ulcinj citizens. In this regard, we support the calls of local institutions and civic society asking for full transparency and for a responsible review of the agreement, consistent with the public interest and the principles of good governance.
The Pan-Albanian Federation of America VATRA is closely tracking all developments regarding this issue and is already initiating contacts with relevant institutions in the United States of America, to assure full compliance with the county’s legislation, the principles of transparency, respect for the people’s will and Montenegro state’s interest. With full faith in your commitment to democracy, legality and the country’s interest, we assure you of our continued support in upholding the law and protecting the rights of citizens.
