The approval of the nominated ambassador of the US to Albania David Kostelancik is too important to be left to politics. Given the fast approaching NATO Summit and the heightened volatility with regard to security in the Balkan region and Europe, the presence of the US ambassador in Albania is a forefront of an issue.
The Pan Albanian Federation of America Vatra is committed to reinforcing the bilateral partnership of the US with Albania and its regional leadership in the Balkans. Albania has been a steadfast partner of the US and there is no question that the strong partnership is still going strong. However, having no US ambassador in Albania for almost a year has come into focus of the Albanian leaders and public as well as our common foes. The attacks, cyber and otherwise, by Russia, Iran and China pushing back against US interests, give priority to the placement of the US ambassador in Albania.
A proven ally and partner of the US, Albania is the only NATO member without a US ambassador. Such absence has serious implications on several levels. Dielli strongly urges that the Senate move expeditiously, given the one year delay due to continued blockage by Ohio Senator JD Vance to a cloture motion and vote to confirm the nomination of David Kostelancik.
Political divisions should not and cannot prevent the US from sending a qualified career diplomat to Albania as ambassador at a critical time for the region, and in a year that is leading up to Albania’s national elections in 2025.
David Kostelancik has served at the US Embassy previously, in addition to serving at NATO and in Moscow and Washington with responsibilities for Russia, the Balkans and Europe. As an extra qualification, he also speaks Albanian. He is a career foreign service officer and a professional diplomat with experience and character that would proudly represent the US in Albania.
