Në organizim të Ambasadorit Blerim Reka, në zyrat e Konsullatës së Përgjithshme të Republikës së Kosovës në New York, u zhvillua një takim ndërmjet Zëvendëskryeministrit dhe Ministrit të Punëve të Jashtme të Republikës së Kosovës, z. Glauk Konjufca, dhe drejtuesve të Ligës Qytetare Shqiptaro-Amerikane: Joe Dioguardi dhe Shirley Cloyes Dioguardi, Drejtorit Ekzekutiv Agim Aliçkaj, si dhe anëtarëve të Bordit – Ekuran Shehu, Zikri Meta, Hysen Ulaj dhe Behlul Gashi.
Z. Konjufca vlerësoi lart veprimtarinë e suksesshme dhe afatgjatë të Ligës në Washington, në shërbim të çështjes së Kosovës dhe interesave kombëtare shqiptare. Ai i informoi të pranishmit për zhvillimet e fundit nga mbledhja e Këshillit të Sigurimit të OKB-së, situatën politike në vend, si dhe përpjekjet e qeverisë për zhvillimin ekonomik dhe forcimin e shtetit përballë sfidave me Serbinë. Po ashtu, ai theksoi rëndësinë e bashkëpunimit dhe unitetit në aktivitetet e ardhshme në Shtetet e Bashkuara të Amerikës.
Përfaqësuesit e Ligës, të udhëhequr nga Joe dhe Shirley, zhvilluan diskutime të thella me z. Konjufca mbi një sërë çështjesh me rëndësi. Ata e informuan atë rreth aktiviteteve të ardhshme, duke veçuar pjesëmarrjen në takimin vjetor të ish-anëtarëve të Kongresit Amerikan, ku marrin pjesë senatorë dhe kongresistë, si aktualë ashtu edhe të mëparshëm, për të shkëmbyer përvoja mbi qeverisjen e SHBA-së.
Liga Qytetare Shqiptaro-Amerikane shprehu mbështetjen e saj për punën e Qeverisë së Kosovës, të udhëhequr nga Kryeministri Kurti, në luftën kundër korrupsionit, në zhvillimin e shtetit dhe në përballjen me hegjemonizmin serb. Gjithashtu, Liga u bëri thirrje të gjitha partive politike në Kosovë që të angazhohen në mënyrë parimore për zgjedhjen e Presidentit të vendit, duke theksuar se bllokimi i këtij procesi dhe shkuarja në zgjedhje të reja do të ishte e dëmshme për Republikën e Kosovës.
Gjatë takimit u diskutuan prioritete të ndryshme strategjike për Kosovën. Liga do të fokusohet veçanërisht në dy objektiva kryesore: kundërshtimin e çdo përpjekjeje për krijimin e një asociacioni serb që do të cenonte funksionalitetin e shtetit të Kosovës, si dhe përshpejtimin e procesit të anëtarësimit të Kosovës në NATO.
Liga Qytetare Shqiptaro-Amerikane do të vazhdojë punën e saj me përkushtim në promovimin e interesave të Kosovës dhe të popullit shqiptar në Washington.

KOSOVA IN NATO AND NEVER A SERB ASSOCIATION
Organized by Ambassador Blerim Reka, a meeting was held at the offices of the Consulate General of the Republic of Kosova in New York between the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kosova, Mr. Glauk Konjufca, and the leaders of the Albanian-American Civic League: Joe DioGuardi and Shirley Cloyes DioGuardi, Executive Director Agim Aliçkaj, as well as board members Ekuran Shehu, Zikri Meta, Hysen Ulaj, and Behlul Gashi.
Mr. Konjufca highly praised the League’s successful and long-standing activity in Washington in service of the Kosova cause and Albanian national interests. He informed those present about the latest developments from the UN Security Council meeting, the political situation in the country, and the government’s efforts for economic development and strengthening the state in the face of challenges with Serbia. He also emphasized the importance of cooperation and unity in future activities in the United States of America.
The League representatives, led by Joe and Shirley, held in-depth discussions with Mr. Konjufca on a number of important issues. They informed him about future activities of AACL, highlighting participation in the annual meeting of former members of the US Congress, where senators and congressmen, both current and former, participate to exchange experiences on US governance.
The Albanian-American Civic League expressed its support for the work of the Government of Kosova, led by Prime Minister Kurti, in the fight against corruption, in state-building, and in confronting Serbian hegemonism. The League also called on all political parties in Kosova to engage in a principled manner in the election of the country’s President, emphasizing that blocking this process and going to new elections would be harmful to the Republic of Kosova.
During the meeting, various strategic priorities for Kosova were discussed. The League will focus particularly on two main objectives: confronting any attempt to create a Serbian association that would undermine the functionality of the state of Kosova, and accelerating the process of Kosova’s membership in NATO.
The Albanian American Civic League will continue its work with dedication in promoting the interests of Kosova and the Albanian people in Washington.
