It is with great sorrow and sadness that we inform our community of the passing of Dr. Philip Çaushaj. Beyond his endless medical accomplishments that are far too long to list, Dr. Çaushaj was a pillar and an activist in the Albanian American medical community. As an Honorary Member and a former President of our society, Dr. Çaushaj always looked to help in any possible way that he could. There are countless medical professionals, as well as current medical students, who owe a great debt to Dr. Çaushaj for his mentorship, guidance, and support. We had the pleasure and honor of having Dr. Çaushaj join us for our last health fair and social event back in March where both days he was the brightest light in the room. We are glad that Dr. Çaushaj got to feel the love that we as a society and a community have for his contributions. While losing such a big pillar of our society is a devastating loss, Dr. Çaushaj’s help, guidance, and mentorship, made it possible for many new pillars to rise and prosper. As someone who enjoyed gardening in his spare time, Dr. Çaushaj also planted many seeds in our Journal Clubs where we will dearly miss him, as he was truly the joy of them. Most importantly though, we have lost someone who many of us consider a dear friend. Dr. Çaushaj is survived by his two children, Katherine and Samuel.
