October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a time to underscore the significance of early detection and life-saving screenings. Breast Cancer is the most common cancer in women worldwide, but if it is taken care of at an early stage, it will be definitely treated. A routine mammogram, clinical breast exams, and occasionally, ultrasound or MRI are tools for early diagnosis, which are indispensable to the identification of cancer before showing the symptoms.
Indiscriminately, it is not always available to access the screening test. High-income countries have witnessed the decrease in the death toll of breast cancer caused by the increased use of screening programs. By utilizing mobile mammogram units and advanced diagnostic methods in rural areas, Kosovo in particular has been implementing new strategies lately and the results so far are very promising. However, there is still room for improvement.
By being a radiologist, I am dedicated to the expansion of breast cancer inspection in Kosovo, by upgrading the facilities of a well-equipped imaging center and boosting the radiology program. Early diagnosis is crucial, and, this month is the time for the global community to get reminded that awareness, education, and, regular screening tests are what will help remove the bright cloud of breast cancer wherever you are in the world.
