International film festival DokuFest kicks off in Prizren

PRIZREN, Aug 9- By Behlul Jashari/ – The International Documentary and Short Film Festival, DokuFest, kicked off on Saturday evening in the historic city of Prizren, Kosovo, offering 228 films from 43 countries, due to be screened between August 8 and 16.
The 14th edition of Kosovo’s renowned festival was opened at the Lumbardhi open air cinema with the screening of the film “Those Who Feel the Fire Burning”, directed by Morgan Knibbe, a deeply personal journey of the ones who will always have the flame inside them. This year’s edition has the topic of ‘migration’ as its central theme.
“DokuFest has the topic of ‘migration’ as its central theme, the festival’s artistic director Veton Nurkollari told art admirers at Prizren’s iconic Lumbardhi cinema in his opening remarks, highlighting the universal importance of this ever increasing global phenomenon.
Selected from a record number of over 3.000 submissions, festival will showcase a fine selection of 228 films from 43 countries across 6 competitive sections and more than a dozen specially curated programs.
Festival organizers said that DokuFest will DokuFest present a record number of films made in Albanian, both by filmmakers living and working in Kosovo and Albania, but also abroad. Festival will pay tribute to one the world’s greatest filmmaker Albert Maysles, with the screening of six of his films.
Kosovo’s largest film festival, DokuFest started in 2002, with the screening of a large number of films and participation of a wide audience, artists from the region and the world, transforming the historic southern city of Prizren, near the border with Albania, the capital city of the film every summer.
