-Në vazhdimësi të dy konferencave të rëndësishme shkencore, Studimet albanistike në Amerikë, që u mbajt në vitin 2015 dhe Studimet për shqipen në vendet ku flitet gjermanisht, e realizuar gjatë 2017-ës, të organizuara nga Akademia e Shkencave dhe Arteve të Kosovës. Rreth 50 referues nga Kosova, Shqipëria, Italia, SHBA, Franca, Polonia, Bullgaria, etj./

PRISHTINË, 22 Tetor 2019-Gazeta DIELLI/ Në Akademinë e Shkencave dhe Arteve të Kosovës Seksioni i Gjuhësisë dhe i Letërsisë, në 22 dhe 23 Tetor 2019, organizon Konferencën Shkencore Ndërkombëtare Studimet albanistike në Itali, në të cilën marrin pjesë me kontributet e tyre shkencore rreth 50 referues nga Kosova, Shqipëria, Italia, SHBA, Franca, Polonia, Bullgaria, etj. Këshilli organizues, të cilit i prin akademik Rexhep Ismajli, ka ftuar emra të njohur të këtyre studimeve dhe ka hartuar një programi të pasur të konferencës, e cila do të zhvillohet në dy ditë, në gjashtë seanca në mjediset e Akademisë së Shkencave dhe të Arteve të Kosovës në Prishtinë.

Në vazhdimësi të dy konferencave të rëndësishme shkencore, Studimet albanistike në Amerikë, që u mbajt në vitin 2015 dhe Studimet për shqipen në vendet ku flitet gjermanisht, e realizuar gjatë 2017-ës, të organizuara nga Akademia e Shkencave dhe të Arteve të Kosovës, pothuaj me distancë të njëjtë kohore, qe planifikuar edhe konferenca shkencore për studimet albanistike në Itali, me shumë interes jo vetëm për praninë e arbëreshëve, për kulturën, letërsinë dhe studimet albanologjike dhe albanistike, por edhe për rezultatet e shumë studiuesve italianë të gjuhës shqipe në radhë të parë, por edhe të letërsisë, antropologjisë dhe kulturës shqiptare në përgjithësi.

Italia është vendi me më së shumti qendra studimi të shqipes, katedra universitare që kanë përgatitur kuadro, pedagogë e studiues dhe që kanë realizuar projekte të rëndësishme studimi.

Organizatorët theksojnë se, rezultatet që u arritën në dy konferencat e mëparshme – Studimet albanistike në Amerikë, mbajtur në vitin 2015 dhe Studimet për shqipen në vendet ku flitet gjermanisht, të realizuar gjatë 2017-ës, interesimi i madh i atyre që morën pjesë dhe rëndësia e  kontributeve që u sollën, na shtojnë bindjen se edhe ky aktivitet, jo më pak i rëndësishëm se dy të parët, do të sjellë kontribute nga fusha të ndryshme të studimeve albanologjike dhe albanistike dhe do të finalizohet me botimin e materialeve, referateve, kumtesave dhe diskutimeve që do të zhvillohen gjatë këtyre dy ditëve të Konferencës në Prishtinë./b.j/

Marash Mrnacaj Eulogy

Marash Mrnacaj was like Joe Dimaggio to me 

He was my superhero, 

my role model. 

My ‘bab’

my grandfather did everything he could to make sure I got whatever I needed. 

That I would not be at a disadvantage because I didn’t have a father. 

He would not allow that… ever.

That’s the kind of man he was. 

He was honest, 

To others, and to himself, which is a rare.

He was brave, 

He was the head of the house, who lead his families escape from Albania, in the middle of the night, risking his life, for the safety and future of his family

you just don’t hear stories like that anymore

He was Honorable

His word was his bond. If he told you he would do something or made a promise to you, you knew it was as good as done. 

There was not one time where he did not do something that he said he was going to do…. 

That’s a Man of honor

He was Fair and a great Listener:

which are the characteristics of a true leader, 

he never yelled… I never heard him yell once…. he didn’t need to,

he tried to see the best in people and he believed in second chances.

He had Patience:

I am telling you, I know this, because he was extremely patient with me. 

It took me a long time to get it, 

to understand, 

and he was so patient. 

He was a man of tradition, respect, he was strong, and firm. 

But he also had the warmest heart. 

He cared so much for his family. And he was not shy about it. 

He showed us affection in every way. 

He was his happiest when he was surrounded by his family.  

Take a look at the pictures, watch his smile in the ones where he is with his family, he is at his happiest 

Pure joy

He was a proud Albanian, 

he loved his country, he loved his people.

He did everything he could to help his country, 

From fighting in the army, or through protests and politics…. 

And he never stopped until the day he died.

In fact, his death was the only thing that could stop him from helping his country. 

Trust me, he went through everything you could imagine, and it didn’t stop him. 

He was charitable, donating to the school in his hometown, that was renamed after my father 

And He made sure, that no one ever said a bad thing about my father to me. 

He made sure that no one would even dare to. 

He believed in me, not all the time…. I didn’t make it easy for him, but he believed in me he motivated me, pushed me, did all the things I, as a boy, needed from a fatherly figure.  

We feared him,

Not because he would yell or hit us, 

We feared him because we didn’t want to let him down, 

because he taught us better.

He taught us to do what is right. 

And he was not a man of talk or words, he led by example. 

He always did the right thing, 

and then when he couldn’t possibly do anymore, 

he left it in God’s hands, 

because he had faith, 

which brought him peace. 

He had presence

You noticed him when he walked into a room. 

He had class and dignity.

He had self-respect,

It was the way he carried himself- in a suit, tie, the moustache-

You know, I don’t think it has set in yet just how much I am going to miss that moustache

He was funny

He had a great sense of humor.

He was full of jokes, none that I could repeat in here, 

nor will I attempt to!

He was hilarious 

He was so funny, in a good-hearted way, that he could say 

whatever he wanted to anyone and they would just laugh or be 

enamored by him. 

He had charm, and charisma. 

He didn’t have a bad bone in his body.

He was a great man, who lived a long, fascinating life

And behind every great man is a great woman. 

And for 65 years, that great woman was his wife, Mria, 

Who stood by his side. 

He loved her so much

The only thing he loved more than his wife, was her cooking

her ‘bukalmouch me djath, mish n lkana’, 

little salt and bread – and he was a happy man. 

He was a smart man too, because he married the best cook. 

She was by his side through the good times and the tough times.

Over the past 15 months his health had been declining, 

he was in and out of the hospital, 

and she stood beside him, day and night, every single day. 

She never left his side. 

She was so exhausted that I saw her fall asleep while standing up.

She would lose her balance because she was so tired. 

But that was her man.

And she was there for him

They had a special bond 

A true love

And a happy marriage 

They had six children, who, led by my uncle Leka, made sure that ‘baba’ was never alone, not for a second, over the past 15 months. 

His daughters, Lucy, Vera and Lisa, and Paul accompanied by his nephew Marku and his family, and his grandson Noah, made sure that someone was always there for him. 

Do you know what a compass is? North, south, east, west….. 

‘Baba’ was like a compass; he gave us direction. 

Always, and not just to us, but anybody he met, the man was full of wisdom.

Someone, who didn’t want his name to be mentioned out of respect, described baba perfectly.

He said “I am sad today not because he died, but because we will never find men like him to take his place.” 

Bab, I’m gonna be honest, I’m gonna miss you, even those little moments, hearing you walk up and down the hallway whistling,

Whistling his favorite music 

Or wearing your UÇK beret, 

Or even hearing that sneeze of yours. 

His sneeze shook the walls of the house. 

Even these little things Im gonna miss.

But I want you to know 

That you did right by us. 

You did everything you could and we are so thankful. 

Everything is OK. 

You raised us the right way. 

We can take it from here. 

We will take care of your wife and make sure your family stays together.

You have nothing to worry about. 

It’s time for you to relax and be reunited with your son. 

He’s been waiting a long time to hear those jokes of yours. 

And now he finally can. 

I love you, bab!

And thank you for being the greatest man in my life.

Mons. dr. Zef Oroshi mes pendës dhe predikimit

Këto ditë u botua libri me autorësi të Mons.dr Zef Oroshit- “Log Kuvendit – Në trinomin fe- Atdhe- perparim” Botimet Volaj: 2019, kjo u përgatit dhe u sponsorizua nën kujdesin e mikut të ngushtë të Monsinjorit, publicistit z. Tomë Mrijaj, i cili ka qenë krahu i djathtë dhe autobiografi i tij.

Libri vjen në 50- vjetorin e meshës së parë në kshnellat e 1969. Si përkujtim i veprës së mons.dr Zef Oroshit dhe komunitetit shqiptar që perqafuan dhe mbështeten ngritjen e kishës së parë katolike shqiptare në mes të Amerikës.

Ka artikuj të Mons.dr. Zef Oroshit të botuara në Revisten Shejzat, Revisten Jeta Katholike Shqiptare, dhe në libra të ndryshëm etj. Artikujt janë shkruar përgjatë viteve 1958-1978, janë artikuj kulturorë, liturgjikë, publicistikë, gjuhësorë, reportazhe, perkthime etj. Shpesh here artikujt  e tij mbajnë pseudonime si; zodjaku, redaksija, theologu, apo nën emertimin “Log Kuvendit”.

Pjesë e libri nuk janë bërë të gjitha artikujt liturgjik apo perkthime të mons.dr. Zef Oroshit pasi kështu është parë e arsyeshme nga përgatitësi i botimit, por është bërë një përzgjedhje e tyre. Duhet theksuar se ka ende shumë artikuj të tjerë të tijt të shpërndarë në revista të tjera që nuk ka qenë e mundur të gjenden. Edhe Çohaja është fragmentare…

Veprimtaria e mons.dr. Zef Oroshit njihet më thellësisht përmes artikujve të tij dhe të tjerëve që kanë shkruar për te, ai nuk ishte vetëm një predikues fetar, përçues i fesë, por dhe një studjoz i zoti, pendë fort e mprehur. Përmes artikujve ne njohim një perkthyes, një gjuhëtar, një shkrimtar, i papajtueshem me regjimin komunist të Shqipërisë, dhe nuk heziton për asnjë moment t’i shpreh bindjet që ka. Kurajoz për të ndërmarrë inisiativa të mëdha mbi supe në dobi të komunitetit shqiptar.

Përmes artikujve ne dallojmë bashkëjetesen fetare që ai përçon në çdo moment, ku nuk lë pa falenderuar klerikët e feve të tjera që iu bënë krah në themelimin e kishës së parë katolike shqiptare. Vetë revista që ai drejtonte përçonte bashkëjetesen vllazërore dhe harmoninë fetare mes shqiptarëve.

Pra, për herë të parë na vjen mons. dr. Zef Oroshi ndryshe, në profilin e studiuesit dhe publicistit. Botimi i artikujve të tij në Revisten Shêjzat dhe Revisten Jeta Katholike Shqiptare, por jo vetëm,  na dëshmon për aftësitë e tij në të shkruar dhe nuk ishte rastësore edhe aftësia e tij për të mbledhur komunitetin shqiptar rreth asaj vatre zjarri që ndezi në zemrat  e tyre, siç patë thënë dhe vetë -“Kjo sot asht nji shkëndi e vogël,
por që do bahet nji flakë e madhe nji ditë në Atdhe.” Këtë e kemi të dëshmuar me fakte pasi sot kemi disa kisha katolike shqiptare në SHBA, që kanë ruajtur me fanatizëm traditat, gjuhën dhe zakonet.

Në këtë jubile të 50-vjetorit të meshës së parë në SHBA, si dhe në përvjetorin e vdekjes së mons. dr. Zef Oroshit miku i tij i ngushtë z. Tomë Mrijaj zgjodhi një formë ndryshe përkujtimi të veprës së Monsinjorit. Ky libër rreth 450 faqe ka në brendësi të tij perla të mons. dr. .Zef Oroshit, pa lënë anash që dhe në hyrje të librit thonë fjalët e tyre dy figura klerikësh katolik mjaft të rendësishëm për kontributin e tyre pranë komunitetit shqiptar në SHBA. 

Dom Pjetër Popa famullitar i kishës katolike shqiptare Zoja e Shkodrës në Nju York mes të tjerash shprehet për te kështu:– “Ky njeri ka qenë dërguar prej Zotit si engjëll rojës për popullin tonë shqiptar,duke u kujdesuar për te më tëpër se për vetën e tij. Sikur mos të kishtë bërë kurgjë tjetër ka bërë boll, duke themeluar kishen e parë katolike shqiptare, pasardhësit që jemi ne. Lutëmi që Zoti të ja ketë shpërblyrë në jetën e amshuar duke gëzuar lumturinë e Parajsës.”

Ndërsa Dom Anton Kçira, Detroit-Michigan, shkruan kështu: “ Meshtari stoik mirditor, i vendosur në udhën e tij, ka ruajtur lidhje kontaktesh të vazhdueshme me të gjithë të arratisurit e sistemit komunist, që prej shumë vitesh jetonin dhe punonin në shtetet e ndryshme të SHBA.  Atyre me durim dhe kthjelltësi mendimi u ka bërë të qartë qëllimin dhe misionin e tij përparimtarë. Monsinjor Oroshi, ka qenë burrë i fjalës dhe besës, një burrë i zgjuar dhe punëtor i palodhur me orë. Atij i ka ecur fjala, sepse ka gëzuar gjithnjë respektin dhe admirimin e emigrantëve tanë shqiptaro-amerikanë, pa dallim
feje dhe krahine. Atij i ka ecur fjala, sepse ka qenë serioz dhe largpamës. Klerikët dhe
komuniteti islam dhe ortodoks në SHBA e ka nderuar dhe respektuar shumë
Monsinjorin.”

E sa e sa personalitete të tjera e kanë vlerësuar maksimalisht Mons.dr. Zef Oroshin, sepse ajo çfarë ka bërë ai për popullin e tij në mërgim ka qenë përtej mundësive dhe përtej parashikimeve. Mjafton të lexosh këtë libër dhe do e kuptosh se sa e vështirë ishte për te të ngrinte Kishën e Parë Katolike Shqiptare.  Në sediljen e mbrapme të makinës udhëtonte me të dhe makina e tij e shkrimit sepse nuk kishte zyrë për të shkruar artikujt, studiot e zyrat e para të përpunimit të revistës iu bënë bodrumet e dashamirësve. Mons. dr. Zef Oroshi shkroi në disa numra rreshtë të revistës listen e emrave që kontribuonin për ngritjen e kishës shqiptare, ku kishte dhe vëllezër mysliman që nuk u kursyen, ai shënoi çdo qindark që jepej, madje e vlerësoi së tepërmi kontributin e vëllezerve mysliman, të cilët kishin filluar nga ana tjetër të bënin përpjekjet për ngritjen e Xhamisë së Parë në Nju York, dhe ai shpreh merzi për faktin se shqiptarët katolik nuk po ishin në gjendje t’i mbështesnin ata për ngritjen e xhamisë aq sa kishin nevojë bashkëvëllezerit e tyre të besimit mysliman. Dhe kur sheh figura të tilla si Mons. dr. Zef Oroshi apo Imam Salih Myftia, që ndonëse familjarët e tyre dergjeshin burgjeve dhe internimeve, këta kontribuonin për të mbajtur gjallë frymën kombëtare.

Prandaj pa drojtje e them se ky libër e ka plotësuar figurën poliedrike të Mons.dr.Zef Oroshit, dhe i ka thënë të gjitha.

HISTORY OF COLUMBUS DAY

Columbus Day is a U.S. holiday that commemorates the landing of Christopher Columbus in the Americas in 1492. It was unofficially celebrated in a number of cities and states as early as the 18th century, but did not become a federal holiday until 1937. For many, the holiday is a way of both honoring Columbus’ achievements and celebrating Italian-American heritage. But throughout its history, Columbus Day and the man who inspired it have generated controversy, and many alternatives to the holiday have proposed since the 1970s including Indigenous Peoples’ Day.

Christopher Columbus, the Italian-born explorer who set sail in August 1492 aboard the ships the Nina, the Pinta and the Santa Maria, bound for Asia with backing from the Spanish monarchs Kind Ferdinand and Queen Isabella.

Columbus intended to chart a western sea route to China, India and the fabled gold and spice islands of Asia. Instead, on October 12, 1492, he landed in the Bahamas, becoming the first European to explore the Americas since the Vikings established colonies in Greenland and Newfoundland during the 10th century.

Later that October, Columbus sighted Cuba and believed it was mainland China; in December the expedition found Hispaniola, which he thought might be Japan. There, he established Spain’s first colony in the Americas with 39 of his men.

In March 1493, Columbus returned to Spain in triumph, bearing gold, spices and “Indian” captives. The explorer crossed the Atlantic several more times before his death in 1506.

It wasn’t until his third journey that Columbus finally realized he hadn’t reached Asia but instead had stumbled upon a continent previously unknown to Europeans.

First Celebration of Columbus Day in the United States

The first Columbus Day celebration took place in 1792, when New York’s Columbian Order, Tammany Hall, a New York City political organization, held an event to commemorate the historic landing’s 300th anniversary. Taking pride in Columbus’ birthplace and faith, Italian and Catholic communities in various parts of the country began organizing annual religious ceremonies and parades in his honor.

In 1892, President Benjamin Harrison issued a proclamation encouraging Americans to mark the 400th anniversary of Columbus’ voyage with patriotic festivities, writing, “On that day let the people, so far as possible, cease from toil and devote themselves to such exercises as may best express honor to the discoverer and their appreciation of the great achievements of the four completed centuries of American life.” Columbus Day Controversy

In 1937, President Franklin D. Roosevelt proclaimed Columbus Day a national holiday, largely as a result of intense lobbying by the Knights of Columbus, an influential Catholic fraternal organization. It was decreed that Columbus Day be observed on the second Monday of October. While Columbus Day is a federal government holiday meaning all federal offices are closed, not all states grant it as a day off from work. 

Columbus Day Controversy

Controversy over Columbus Day dates back from 19th century, when anti-immigrant groups in the United States rejected the holiday because of its association with Catholicism. In recent decades, Native Americans and other groups have protested the celebration of an event that resulted in the colonization of the Americas, the beginnings of the transatlantic slave trade and the deaths of millions from murder and disease. European settlers brought a host of infectious diseases, including smallpox and influenza that decimated indigenous populations. Warfare between Native Americans and European colonists claimed many lives as well. 

Indigenous Peoples Day 

The image of Christopher Columbus as an intrepid hero has been called into question. Upon arriving in the Bahamas, the explorer and his men forced the native peoples they found there into slavery. Later, while serving as the governor if Hispaniola, he allegedly imposed barbaric forms of punishment, including torture. In many Latin American nations, the anniversary of Columbus’ landing has traditionally been observed as the Dìa de la Raza (“Day of the Race”), a celebration of Hispanic culture’s diverse roots. In 2002, Venezuela renamed the holiday Dìa de la Resistencia Indìgena (“Day of Indigenous Resistance”) to recognize native peoples and their experience.

Several U.S. cities and states have replaced Columbus Day with alternative days of remembrance. Alaska, Hawaii, Oregon and South Dakota have officially replaced Columbus Day with Indigenous Peoples Day, as have cities like Denver, Phoenix and Los Angeles.

Columbus Day Observed 

Columbus Day was originally observed every October 12, but was changed to the second Monday in October beginning in 1971.

In New York as in some parts of the United States, Columbus Day has evolved into a celebration of Italian-American heritage. Local groups host parades and street fairs featuring colorful costumes, music and Italian food. In places that use the day to honor indigenous peoples, activities include pow-wows, traditional dance events and lessons about Native American culture.

Një fjalor hebraish-anglisht i terminologjisë së Biblës botuar në vitin 1908 nga tre autorë, Brown-Driver-Briggs, jep kuptimin e emrit ‘Nefilim’ si “gjigandë”, por thotë se etimologjitë e propozuara të fjalës janë të gjitha shumë të pasigurta. Shumë interpretime, bazohen në supozimin se fjala është një derivat i rrënjës hebraike n-f-l “bie”. Më pas, disa kanë argumentuar se fjala vjen nga Hifil, duke nënkuptuar se nefilimët janë “ata që bëjnë që të tjerët të bien”, apo “ata që kanë rënë mbi të tjerët”, e ngjashme me ‘ai që është emëruar’, mbikëqyrës, ose ‘ai që është ‘NëFillim’.
Dhe Zoti i tha Moisiut:
“Dërgo njerëz të hetojnë tokën e Kanaanit, të cilën unë po ua jap Izraelitëve” … Kështu ata shkuan dhe hetuan vendin … dhe kur u kthyen, i thanë: “…njerëzit që banojnë në Kanaan janë të fortë e shtatlartë, qytetet e tyre janë të fortifikuar; dhe përveç kësaj, atje ne kemi parë pasardhësit e Anakut”. (Numrat, Dhiata e vjetër).
Bibla i përshkruan Anakët si pasardhës të Nefilimëve. Teksti thotë se Anaku ishti biri i Arbës. Në lashtësi Hebroni quhej “Kirjath Arba”- “Qyteti i Arbës”, banorët e të cilit u zhvendosën me ardhjen e izraelitëve, rreth viteve 1580 pes., duke u shtrirë drejt Ballkanit të sotëm dhe duke sjellë me vete pjesë të gjuhës dhe emërtime. Qytet a fshat me emrin Arba ekzistojnë sot në Greqi, Itali dhe sigurisht në Shqipëri ku Arba u shndërrua në Arbëri e Albani.
