Manhattan University [Riverdale,NY]— November 12, 2025. The Manhattan University Albanian Student Association (MUASA) proudly hosted its 4th Annual Albanian Independence Day Celebration, honoring 113 years of Albania’s independence. Founded on September 22, 2022, by Eleni Mazija, MUASA has grown into a strong cultural and philanthropic presence on campus. This year’s event welcomed approximately 140 attendees, including students, faculty, alumni, and community members.
The evening featured music by DJ Cris J, a traditional tupan performance by Chris Tupan, and a moving rendition of “Hymni i Flamurit” by Shkodër’s own Ilsi Ademi. Guests enjoyed food generously donated by Albanian-owned and local businesses and restaurants, as well as a photobooth, backdrop decorations by Events by NS, balloon columns by Pep Balloons, a cake by Pastry Alma, and photography by EleniMPhotography. More than 22 Albanian businesses contributed gift cards and items to the raffle, with all proceeds supporting MUASA’s annual mission.
This year, MUASA partnered with the Open Hands Association, led by founder and president Mr. Aleksander Nilaj. One hundred percent of event profits will be donated to the organization’s Albanian American food pantry in the Bronx, and MUASA members will volunteer to assist with food distribution and a holiday initiative. Open Hands recognized MUASA’s board members for their collaboration and support.
A special guest, Westchester County Legislator David Tubiolo, attended the celebration to honor MUASA’s achievements. He presented founder Eleni Mazija with an official proclamation recognizing her leadership and declaring “Manhattan University Albanian Student Association Day,” a milestone for the growing organization.
The evening was filled with music, dance, and cultural pride, creating a memorable celebration for all who attended. Reflecting the spirit of the night, MUASA shared the Albanian saying: “Çfarëdo që të bësh, bëje me zemër” (“Whatever you do, do it from the heart”). MUASA looks forward to hosting its 5th Annual Albanian Independence Day Celebration next year and plans to make it its biggest event yet.
