SPIRIT ON FIRE

Good evening Ladies and Gentlemen,/

I want to thank the Albanian American Women’s Organization for the honor of selecting me as Woman of the Year, I am humbled. Thank you to the board and all the volunteers that contribute their time and resources to help the organization grow and make it successful. Let me begin by reading to you the Mission statement of the organization because it is so moving and meaningful; The AWWO works to lift the spirit, status and voice of Albanian women, girls and Albanian families so they can fully participate in all aspects of life, by becoming stronger, and more resilient, in overcoming the years of war, government oppression and “tradition” that have pushed them down and to the “margins” of society. AWWO hopes to strengthen the bonds between Albanian American women and their sisters all over the world. ** The awards provided by this organization have a truly special meaning because culturally women in our nationality have had tremendous hurdles to overcome and achieve what they have because of the chosen life and path already dictated to them culturally. I congratulate every woman in this room for their success. I must be perfectly honest, I was excited about getting the nomination but, not for the award, it is because I was getting the opportunity to share a message with all of you because sometimes 2 words in a message can change everything. Tonight I will deliver a message of hope and determination. I have no secret to my success, no straight path and no clear answer. I will not stand here and tell you that you should follow a script to success. I will not tell you that you must get a college degree and that you have to have one to be successful. Although I WILL tell you that no matter where you are in your life today, no matter your finances, or the degree, or what anyone tells you, or the outside noises of negativity; that you have special gifts and talents already inside of you that no one else has. Your life should start right where you are. Many of you here tonight do not know a lot about my life besides my short bio provided. I can tell you I had an arranged married at an early age, I came from and abusive marriage and I am divorced, I have had my oldest child taken away from me because of the “arranged” marriage and this month she will be 26 yrs old. I was that woman that was silenced until the age of 30, I was that woman who was locked in a house for years on end, who endured domestic violence, and I was not even allowed to use a phone or go to college, …. I WAS that woman. I did not choose these circumstances – here’s what I DID CHOOSE; TWO things; 1) my constant Faith In God, the harder things got the more my faith grew. 2) I did NOT let anyone break my Spirit! I had no voice but, my spirit ………..was on fire. The more adversity that I endured, the stronger my spirit grew. For anyone that may assume that I had an upper hand to success, I did not. Why am I telling you this? Because it is crucial that we not only remember where we came from but, how that will never stop our BRIGHT future. Be true to yourself, be honorable & be unstoppable in prosperity. This great country has been a magnet for Albanians because where else in the world can you live to your fullest potential. The Albanian Americans in this country have been more than resourceful utilizing everything to help Albanians all over the world reach their full potential & we won’t stop. Each and every person in this room has a gift, a talent that no one else has. Sometimes it can come to you out of anger, other times as a constant thought or a wish in the back of your mind, listen to those thoughts and think about how you can utilize them, so you can create wealth for yourself. When I was young I hated reading, I really hated reading!! Imagine all these years, the thing I hated the most makes me money today. I was challenged and hired to read and interpret complex language, I was thrown against the opinions of attorneys, insurance companies, claims adjusters and came out the winner. Now I just go with the flow, I just read from morning to night. So I am sure you are all wondering what my dream job is; it is to be a stay at home Mom, unfortunately my kids are never home, they are grown up and they are taking college classes and working so I can’t have my dream job so I JUST KEEP ON READING….. I want to take the opportunity to thank my parents, my father is no longer with us BUT, tonight he watches me from heaven. They say I have my father’s quiet reservation and determination and my mother’s optimism, feistiness and sense of humor. Thank you for all you did to raise and love me. Thank you to my two babies Paul and Nicolette for truly taking the hard road with me and as I watched you grow; you both watched me grow, I love you both so very much. Harry, you have been an inspiration since the day I met you, One of the first things Harry said to me was “you’re perfect, don’t change a thing”. YEP, you guessed it, now he’s stuck with me! Thank you all for coming and enjoy this great event .

AAWO Teacher of Year-SPEECH

Good evening, I must say that I am humbled, honored, and at the same time excited to be in your company to receive the award of ‘Teacher of the Year’.

I’d like to express a heartfelt thank you to the Albanian American Women’s Organization for this wonderful honor.

Your loyalty and faith in me is a great asset in the administration of my work as educator and as the President of the Albanian American Educators Association. Today I thank you in words, after today, I hope to translate my appreciation into deeds and conduct.

I’d like to also congratulate Lisa Milicaj for her award for Women of the Year. I knew Lisa as a little girl many years ago and it gives me joy to bear witness to the fine women that she has become. So congratulations Lisa!

I am happy to accept this award on behalf of all the incredible teachers I have known over the years and all of the incredible teachers I know today.

I used to think that the Teacher of the Year was the best teacher around, but I have learned that many of the best educators are far too humble to be recognized easily. However, I can stand here as a symbol of these quiet, hardworking souls who spend their lives serving in the classroom for the good of all of the children with whom they have been entrusted.

Esteemed friend, NYU college professor and political activist, Dr. Shinasi Rama once told me that no one influences a society more than a politician, a clergyman and a teacher.

As a teacher and school administrator, I feel fortunate to belong to a special group of people who can influence and cultivate a society.

Teachers not only impart knowledge but many inspire, guide and support children to become productive individuals in our society. Teachers help their students to develop a passion and love for continued learning that exceeds beyond the facets of the classroom.

Our Albanian heritage embodies firm beliefs in loyalty, generosity and hospitality and these values are the crux of our work as educators.

When I started my career in education there were only a handful of Albanian Educators. Over the years I have met numerous Albanian American educators, but in the last ten years or so, I have seen an influx of young, hardworking and talented Albanian American Educators and Albanian immigrants who are in the educational field.

This exposure prompted me, along with ten amazing educators, to start the Albanian American Educators Association, so tonight I’d like to share my award and acknowledge this group of awesome and talented women that have helped me to develop and grow The Albanian American Educators Association- they are my Albanian Sisters in education and they are here tonight, so I’d like to introduce you to them, so please stand as I say your names,

Please give these wonderful ladies a round of applause for the amazing work they do in education. They all work for the NYC Department of Education and help children and families every day and they have wholeheartedly committed to helping the Albanian Community as well. It is a privilege and honor to know and work with each of them.

I’d like to also thank Elsa Lulaj, an educator and former AAWO “teacher of the year”, recipient for magnifying my work and nominating me for this award.

I must also express my thanks, to my wonderful Mom and Dad who have served as excellent teachers and roles models and who taught me that education, hard work and sacrifice do pay off.

My other thanks go to my dearest friend and Husband Tony, my sister Kristina, my best friend Maggie, and the greatest cousins anyone could ask for, Adrian, Kathy, Vera, Zeena, Alisa and their husbands who also deserve my deepest expression of gratitude for their support and confidence.

Ladies and gentlemen, if this award stands for anything, it stands for the positive influences we have on society- And that we all have the ability to inspire, guide and support one another.

William A. Ward, an American writer for the Readers Digest Magazine and a Bible studies teacher, wrote,

“The Mediocre teacher Tells,

The Good teacher Explains,

The Superior teacher Demonstrates,

And The GREAT teacher INSPIRES.”

As I accept this award on behalf of all teachers I would like to remind everybody that our greatest work is to inspire others.

Mesazhi i ministres së Arsimit Lindita NIKOLLA për Festën e 7 Marsit

Sot është dita që të sjell urimet e festës nga nxënës, prindër e kolegë: nëse ende nuk e ke marrë nga një ish kolege, atëherë unë jam e para që të uroj:Gëzuar 7 Marsin! Gëzuar festën e mësuesit dhe shkollës shqipe! Unë e di pasionin, dashurinë dhe përkushtimin që Ti ndan çdo ditë me nxënësit e tu. Ëndrra për çdo nxënës fillon nga një mësues. Kështu ka qenë edhe për mua.

Nuk e ke filluar edhe ti ëndrrën tënde nga mësuesja jote? Unë po. Njoh mësuesen, mësuesit që i dhanë krah dhe jetësuan edhe ëndrrën e sime bije.Shpesh pyes veten nëse në 16 vitet e mia të mësimdhënies u shërbeva dhe unë nxënësve të mi, siç u kërkova dhe mësuesve të sime bije.

Nuk di a ia dola që përmes punës së pandalur dhe të vërtetave të përbotshme të kultivoja dijen, po aq sa edhe sjelljen e qytetarisë demokratike.Sa nxënës ndihmova të mësonin ndryshe përmes bashkëpunimit, debatit e të të ushtruarit?Sa arrita të ngjall dëshirën për të ndryshuar edhe tek të tjerë, që në të kundërtën do të ishin në rrugë e problematikë për shoqërinë?

Përgjigjet përpiqem t’i gjej duke punuar së bashku me çdo mësues për kurrikulat dhe tekstet e reja, për programet e ndihmës për nxënësit e talentuar dhe me nevoja të veçanta, te klasat inteligjente, te shkolla qendër komunitare etj.Mirënjohje edhe për kontributin tënd.

Si drejtuese e arsimit e di se Ti meriton edhe më shumë mbështetje. Vendosja e sistemit të ri të emërimit përmes portalit “Mësues për Shqipërinë”, është një pikë e rëndësishme kthese, por ende kemi shumë për të bërë.Vijojmë me një skemë të re kualifikimi, pasi, siç Ti e di, vlerësuam nevojat e secilit prej jush me një testim kombëtar.

Jam shumë e vendosur për të luftuar korrupsionin dhe larguar politikën nga shkolla, por më duhet edhe ndihma jote.Nëse shkolla është vendi ku e ardhmja hedh rrënjë, atëherë po shkolla është vendi ku e tashmja kërkon përfshirjen e të gjithëve.Ndjesë për emocionet e mia, por dhe më shumë ndjesë nëse diku nuk ia kam dalë të jem edhe zëri yt.

Ambasadori Delawie takon Kryeprokurorin Lumezi: Ligji i barabartë për të gjithë

-Kryeprokurori i Shtetit Aleksandër Lumezi priti në takim ambasadorin amerikan në Prishtinë, Greg Delawie/

PRISHTINË, 7 Mars 2016/Kryeprokurori i Shtetit, Aleksander Lumezi, ka pritur sot në takim ambasadorin e Shteteve të Bashkuara të Amerikës në Kosovës, Greg Delawie, me të cilin bisedoi për thellimin e bashkëpunimit në mes Prokurorit të Shtetit dhe Shteteve të Bashkuara të Amerikës, përmes Ambasadës së saj në Prishtinë, me qëllim të forcimit të sundimit të ligjit në vendin tonë.Kryeprokurori falënderoi ambasadorin amerikan për mbështetjen që Shtetet e Bashkuara të Amerikës e kanë dhënë dhe vazhdojnë ta japin, për funksionimin e mirëfilltë të sistemit prokurorial të Kosovës.Gjatë këtij takimi, kryeprokurori kosovar i Shtetit ka njoftuar ambasadorin amerikan në Prishtinë se sfidë kryesore e Prokurorit të Shtetit mbetet luftimi i korrupsionit, krimit tëorganizuar, krimeve ekonomike, terrorizmit dhe sigurimi i kushteve adekuate për funksionimin sa më të mirë të këtij sistemi.Me theks të veçantë gjatë këtij takimi u diskutua për veprimet që po i ndërmerr Prokurori i Shtetit për të rritur efikasitetin në luftë kundër korrupsionit, për rezultatet më të mira të punës në luftën kundër korrupsionit, të shënuara gjatë muajve të fundit, si dhe për bashkëpunimin në mes Prokurorit të Shtetit dhe institucioneve tjera të zbatimit të ligjit, për koordinim të veprimeve për luftimin e këtyre veprave penale.Në anën tjetër, ambasadori Delawie, duke vlerësuar punën që është duke e bërë Prokurori i Shtetit, në krye me kryeprokurorin Lumezi, shprehu gatishmërinë e tij dhe të vendit të tij, për ta ndihmuar sistemin prokurorial të Kosovës në të gjitha çështjet që Shtetet e Bashkuara të Amerikës mund të kontribuojnë, me qëllim të rritjes së efikasitetit të këtij sistemi, duke theksuar se duhet të zbatohet ligji në mënyrë të barabartë për të gjithë qytetarët, pavarësisht pozitës së tyre në shoqëri.Në fund të takimit kryeprokurori Lumezi theksoi vendosmërinë e tij për të kontribuar në forcimin e sundimit të ligjit dhe se është i vetëdijshëm me sfidat e shumta që ka sistemi prokurorial, por me punë të palodhshme të prokurorëve të shtetit dhe mbështetjen e Shteteve të Bashkuara të Amerikës do t’i tejkalojnë të gjitha sfidat, duke dhënë rezultate në zbulimin dhe hetimin e veprave penale./b.j/

Kosova në konferencën globale të sektorit minerar në Kanada

-Ministri Stavileci në margjinat e kësaj konference ka zhvilluar takime bilaterale me ministren për Tregti të Jashtme të Kanadasë, Chrystia Freeland, me të cilën ka biseduar mbi mundësitë e bashkëpunimit mes dy vendeve/
PRISHTINË, 7 Mars 2016/Ministri kosovar i Zhvillimit Ekonomik, Blerand Stavileci po merr pjesë në konferencën më të madhe në nivel global për industrinë minerare që mbahet çdo vit në Toronto të Kanadasë, me ç’rast do të prezantojë resurset minerale të Kosovës dhe mundësitë për investime në këtë sektor.
Njoftimi i dërguar thekson se, PDAC Konferenca Ndërkombëtare e Tregtisë dhe Këmbimit të Investimeve 2016 (PDAC International Convention, Trade Show & Investors Exchange 2016) është konferenca më e madhe për nga pjesëmarrësit, kompanitë dhe organizatat që merren me eksplorimin e mineraleve. Në të marrin pjesë rreth 1.000 ekspozues dhe 23.500 pjesëmarrës nga mbi 100 vende të botës.
Qëllimi i PDAC është të promovojë eksplorim e mineraleve dhe zhvillimin e qëndrueshëm të këtij sektori, duke inkurajuar teknikat bashkëkohore e mjedisore që rrisin sigurinë dhe performancën sociale në nivel ndërkombëtar.
Stavileci në kuadër të kësaj konference do të prezantojë mundësitë dhe projektet konkrete për investime në sektorin minerar, për çka edhe janë përcaktuar edhe zonat me interes të veçantë, me qëllim të nxitjes së investimeve të jashtme.
Ministri Stavileci në margjinat e kësaj konference ka zhvilluar takime bilaterale me ministren për Tregti të Jashtme të Kanadasë, Chrystia Freeland, me të cilën ka biseduar mbi mundësitë e bashkëpunimit mes dy vendeve.
Gjithashtu, Stavileci ka takuar edhe drejtues të kompanive dhe organizatave të ndryshme./b.j/
