On June 6th, 2024 the Albanian American Educators Association hosted a show with the National Ballet of Kosovo called Migrations at Manhattanville University in Purchase New York.
A powerful performance choreographed by Arbresh-descent dancer Antonio Fini captivated a sold-out crowd. The show, “MIGRATIONS”, explored the universal theme of migration through the language of movement, highlighting the experiences and challenges faced by migrants across the globe.
The performance featured a full cast of 25 talented young dancers from Kosovo who brought the story to life. The dancers seamlessly blended traditional Albanian song and music with graceful folk, ballet and modern dance movements, creating a deeply moving and captivating experience for the entire audience.
In addition to the stunning performance, the Albanian American Educators Association (AAEA) presented the Arts Enrichment Award to Gezim and Angjelina Nika, along with their children Eliverta, Daniala, and Jason. The award recognizes the Nika family’s artistic and significant contributions to the performing arts and the Albanian community for over 20 years. Setting the stage for the performance, Blendor Marku, took the audience on a journey with his beautiful chifteli playing.
Jacqueline Kapaj-Vieira, President of the AAEA, spoke eloquently about the impact of teachers and the arts. “One can never underestimate the impact of a teacher,” she stated. “Teachers make a difference in the lives of their students every day, and the performing arts offer a unique blend of personal growth, social connection, and a deeper appreciation for the world. They can leave a lasting impact on someone’s life, shaping who they are. The work of the Nika family certainly makes that impact.”
The evening was a testament to the power of human potential and how the performing arts and education truly makes a difference.
