Police officers killed by gunmen in latest US shooting/
Three US police officers were killed and another three injured in a shooting in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Local authorities say at least two suspects were involved in the shooting.
Three law enforcement officials are confirmed dead and three others wounded after a shooting in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, local sherrif’s office spokesperson, Casey Rayborn Hicks, said Sunday.
One suspect is dead and authorities are searching for at least one more gunman in connection with the deadly shooting.
“We believe there is more than one suspect, that’s why we’re asking the community for help,” local police Corporal L’Jean McKneely told journalists.
He asked locals to call authorities if they see anything suspicious, including a man wearing army fatigues and a mask or carrying a gun.
Both the local police and the sheriff’s department responded to the shooting less than a mile (1.6 kilometers) from the police headquarters.
McKneely added that police sent in a robot to ensure the dead suspect and his surroundings are not booby-trapped with explosives.
The southern city was the scene of a deadly police shooting of a black man, a father of five, earlier this month who appeared to be restrained by police. That shooting, and another in Minnesota, sparked national outrage.
During a peaceful rally in Dallas, Texas, following the two shootings, a black gunman opened fire, killing five police officers.
More to come.
