On Friday, November 14, 2025, Bethany Hall at Seton Hall University was filled with over 300 guests for the 2nd Annual Albanian Independence Day Celebration, organized by the Albanian Student Organization under the leadership of its president and founder, Nancy Kajo. The evening brought together students from Montclair State University, Manhattan University, Rutgers University–Newark, Rutgers University–New Brunswick, Fordham University, and St. John’s University, as well as representatives from organizations such as Federsta Vatra, Shoqata Ulqini, Shoqata Dibra, the Albanian Knights Club, the Port Authority Police Department Illyrian Association, and the Albanian American Cultural Center of Riverdale.
The program opened with a solemn introduction by the Port Authority Police Department Pipes and Drums and Honor Guard, followed by the playing of the national anthems. The Albanian national anthem was beautifully performed live by Ilsi Ademi. Throughout the night, guests enjoyed live music by Edmond Nikolla and Dritan Papa, creating a festive and deeply patriotic atmosphere. Distinguished guests included Miss Globe USA Samantha Sarelli, Albanian social media personalities Rrok Merdita and Blerim Nikeziq, and professional boxer Reshat Mati, whose presence highlighted the strong connection between Albanian youth, culture, and global achievement.
The Guest of Honor and Keynote Speaker for the evening was Emina Cunmulaj Nazarian, whose powerful remarks inspired the audience and helped mobilize even greater support for the event’s charitable mission. All funds raised from the celebration will benefit the 24-hour Development Center for Persons with Disabilities in Vlorë, Albania, making the night not only a celebration of Albanian independence and identity, but also a concrete act of solidarity with some of the most vulnerable members of our community abroad.
A special acknowledgment is also due to Chief Gloria Frank, Chief of Agency Affairs, whose presence and support underscored the strong partnership between the Port Authority and the Albanian-American community at this event.
Opening prayers were then offered by Fr. Gerald Buonopane and Imam Gazmend Aga, setting a meaningful and unifying tone for the evening.
The work of the Albanian Student Organization’s executive board—Dr. Ines Murzaku, Nancy Kajo, Sylvia Bojkovic, Arta Boljevic, Matilda Mbrati, Denisa Zuta, Fiona Meto, Ari Kadrija, and Erjon Mersimi—was essential in making the evening a success.
