The New York City Police Department (NYPD) has awarded Officer Vlora Gjeka the Police Combat Cross, its second-highest honor for bravery in the line of duty, recognizing her extraordinary heroism during a life-threatening off-duty incident.
Officer Gjeka, a proud Albanian-American with roots in Gjakova, displayed exceptional courage while intervening in an armed confrontation alongside Officer Michael Saline. Their swift response helped neutralize a deadly threat, protected innocent bystanders, and exemplified the core values of law enforcement: courage, integrity, and duty.
Officer Saline, of Italian-Calabrian background, also expressed pride in his Albanian heritage, underscoring the strong cultural ties that unite diverse communities in service and sacrifice.
The American Albanian Law Enforcement Association (AALEA) applauds this well-deserved recognition and calls on the Albanian-American community and all supporters of law enforcement to stand proud and celebrate this historic achievement.
This moment marks a milestone not only for Officer Gjeka and her family but for all Albanian-Americans who serve with honor across the United States.
