Vice President Kamala Harris placed a wreath in a somber ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington National Cemetery. Vice President Harris said to the nation’s veterans “through your life’s work and your example, you make America stronger.”
Earlier today first lady Jill Biden who hosted breakfast in honor of the veterans service to the country announced the Hidden Helpers Coalition, an initiative that aims to help young people who act as caregivers.
In her remarks, Vice President noted the Biden administration’s efforts to deliver on help with housing, health care and jobs. At the ceremony, she was joined by Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Mark Milley, Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg.
Notably in August the Biden administration signed the legislation expanding healthcare (PACT) for service members who were exposed to burn pits in Iraq and Afghanistan as well as chemicals used in previous conflicts. According to reports by the administration, more than 137,000 claims involving toxic exposure have been filed.
Present Biden who is attending a United Nation conference on climate in Egypt released a video statement in commemoration of this special day.
“America’s veterans and their families, survivors and caregivers are the very spine and soul of the United States. And on this special day, on every day, I honor all those who sacrifice to our nation, like my son.”
