U.S. Congressman Eliot Engel in an interview to agency INA said that the reputation of the country will depend on the organization of free and democratic elections of June 23.
“It is very important for Albania to have free, fair and democratic elections, there is no fraud or manipulation of the electoral process and [that the process] be clean. I was in Albania in the past, when there are elections held and was very pleased with them. Everyone is monitored and closely followed elections in this country. Albania is a member of NATO and I think that free elections and free membership will assist Albania in the European Union, the opposite would not be good news, because the whole world is watching,” said Engel, the ranking Democrat on the Foreign Affairs Committee of the House of Representatives.
According to him, the Central Election Commission should work to achieve international standards elections and democratic.
“I do not care about who is in committee, but it is important that the committee to do the work in accordance with the laws in force for the elections to be free and democratic,” said U.S. Congressman.
